Writing stories is something that I have always enjoyed doing. As a child I would pretend that I could talk with flowers, animals, birds or anything that caught my interest. I put them all together in a notebook and pretended that I had written a book. The title was "What is your story?" I actually gave myself an award for being the only person in the whole world who could talk with animals and tell their stories. Sometime in the near future I and going to publish my stories and the title will probably be "What is your Story?"
In the tenth grade of high school, I wrote a short story for a class assignment and named it "Andersons Survived the Civil War - Then Sealed it with a Kiss." My English teacher Jim Avey tried to talk me into having my story published. I eventually did, but it was many years later after I retired from local government. As we were going through my mother's things before she went into a senior home, she opened her Bible and took out my short story class assignment that she had kept folded inside her Bible all through the years and I had no idea that she had it. Anderson was my mother's maiden name and as a personal tribute to my mother and grandmother who had just passed away, I chose to use their last name in the title. Even though the story is fiction, it made my mother proud that I chose to use her maiden name. After I retired, I decided to rewrite my story and have it published. When I did, I contacted my English teacher and told him about it. He was very excited and was delighted to join me in my task. We were front page news twice with the Gaston Gazette and Fox News came out and did a story on us. Mr. Avey said that he had received more attention because of my book than he had ever received during all of his years of teaching. I think my story proves that teachers do make a difference in their students lives. After publishing that book, the desire to right once again became a popular past time for me. Since publishing "Andersons Survive the Civil War-Then Seal it with A Kiss" I have written three other books. "The Secret Sins of their Preachers" "EMMA - Infamy & Ecstasy" and "SHAKEDRA Cloned Warrior." I have outlines for sequels for two of my books and I still have all of those stories tucked away titled "What is Your Story." I plan a series of children's books based on my stories that began when I was a small child.
